The Magic Kingdom of Trafficking
Spurred by rumor, hundreds of migrants mass at US border in Mexico's Ciudad Juarez
Migrants are so desperate to get into the magic kingdom that they'll try virtually anything - except perhaps to enter the country legally. Instead, they imagine a shortcut and a free ticket to a new life. Meanwhile, thousands of other migrants are herded into the US every day for all kinds of unsavory activities, to disappear into the vast land of “America.”

“There were approximately 1.7 million migrant encounters in fiscal 2021 and 2.4 million in fiscal 2022. The lawmakers noted ongoing concerns about a surge in unaccompanied children, which has been reported as fueling child labor trafficking in the U.S. They say it paints a ‘dire picture of the crisis at our southwest border that cannot be ignored.’”
The latest information is that hotel chains are being sued by trafficking survivors. Really. It’s a flood of lawsuits to be sure.
“Given the hidden nature of human trafficking, it is almost impossible to understand the full scope and scale of the issue” is a well recited verse. Those who claim to know often say - "the true scale of human trafficking and modern slavery is an unknown."
Since the true scale of human trafficking is unknown, then the numbers below are bunk, and are low estimates of human trafficking at best, mere propaganda at worst. The people behind these statistics just don't want you to feel quite so bad about human slavery that you rise up about it, and perhaps do something. They just want you to be a little alarmed so you imagine something meaningful is being done about the crisis. A little gaslighting never hurt anyone, right?
The estimates? 49.6 million victims trapped in modern-day slavery.
Of these:
• 27.6 million are exploited for labor
• 17.3 million are in forced marriage
• 12% of all those in forced labor are children
My experience with percentages is that they make great liars out of those that use them.
